Health/Nutrition News: New Berry On The Block Packs Twice The Antioxidants

Health/Nutrition News: New Berry On The Block Packs Twice The Antioxidants

The little-known black elderberry is "berry" good for your health; clinically-proven to support immune function.

Nottingham, UK (PRWEB) February 25, 2009 -- It's been widely known and touted that certain berries are high in antioxidants, thought to help boost the immune system and help fight off infectious diseases and viruses. The latest to make news is black elderberry (http://blackelderberry.info), the main ingredient in the dietary supplement Sambucol Black Elderberry (http://www.sambucolusa.com), which has twice the natural antioxidant capacity of blueberries and almost twice that of cranberries, according to the Dept. of Agriculture's ORAC rating (oxygen radical absorbance capacity).

Even better, you won't have to go berry picking to get this boost to your immune system now that Sambucol black elderberry dietary supplement (http://www.sambucolusa.com) is widely available in the U.S. Sambucol is the original black elderberry that was tested in published clinical trials and is made from a unique black elderberry extract - originally formulated by a virologist -- with a higher antioxidant capacity than most other fruits. Sambucol dietary supplements are produced from whole black elderberries and have the equivalent of up to 1,000 black elderberries in every 120 ml/4-ounce bottle and are manufactured using the same part of the plant, which has an impact on the consistency in quality and efficacy.

Here are some additional little-known facts about black elderberry:

•Throughout history, black elderberry has been used to treat colds, flu, fever, burns, cuts and more than 70 other maladies, from toothache to the plague. The medicinal benefits of the berry can be traced back to prehistoric times. Evidence of this use has been seen in Stone Age villages located at sites in Italy and Switzerland. Recipes were also discovered that showed black elderberry use in Ancient Egypt.

•The black elderberry, otherwise known as Sambucus nigra L, is a small shrub or bush that is native to most of Europe, northwest Africa and southwest Asia. It typically grows in areas that receive a lot of sunlight and can grow both in wet and dry fertile areas.

•In modern times, black elderberry has been used as a dietary supplement to help boost the immune system. Sambucol Black Elderberry is the original elderberry product sold in stores in more than 15 countries that has been researched and tested in published clinical trials showing it to help support the immune system. Sambucol's unique formulation and extraction process preserves and maximizes the naturally occurring health benefits of the berry.

•The Sambucol line of products (http://www.sambucolusa.com/sambucol-range.htm) is now widely available nationwide at major retailers, including health food stores, vitamin retailers including Vitamin Shoppe, pharmacy chains, including Rite Aid, Walgreens and CVS, independent drug stores, and online at drugstore.com. Go to www.sambucol.com for complete store availability and more information about the health benefits of black elderberry.

QuestNet Recognised as a Caring Corporate Citizen

QuestNet Recognised as a Caring Corporate Citizen

“Greed is Good,” exclaimed Gordon Gekko in the Hollywood take on the stock market and trading (Wall Street, released in 1987). The film is a seminal classic, but would this sentiment find favour today?

(PRWEB) February 25, 2009 -- “Greed is Good,” exclaimed Gordon Gekko in the Hollywood take on the stock market and trading (Wall Street, released in 1987). The film is a seminal classic, but would this sentiment find favour today?

During the heady and hedonistic eighties, these viewpoints found a lot of support due to the then common corporate and social culture. However, with present day attitudes, a perspective such as this would not find such broad appeal with the modern audience.

Changing corporate culture

In the 22 years since Wall Street hit the silver screen, we have witnessed many changes and advances in corporate society and governance. Corporate entities and companies seem to have found a genuine conscience and a social ‘voice’. Terms such as ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ (CSR) are no longer just buzz terms that pay ‘lip service’, but are in fact agents of real change and a developing understanding amongst the corporate world that community service and ‘giving back’ is not just nice to have, but in fact a duty. As global organisations realise their increasing impact on the environment and the societies in which they operate, they are realising that it is part of their obligation to not only answer to their shareholders, but to the community at large.

As awareness is raised globally amongst corporate bodies and multinationals, we can switch on the news to see yet more examples of companies showing that greed is not good, and as a policy, is increasingly unsustainable. From the exhausted rainforest to the global fight over declining oil reserves, or from the worldwide necessity to control carbon emissions to our shrinking and fragile ecosystems – we are losing this global war.

As a result, more green policies are being taken up at a board-to-local level and companies are realising a real need to promote good citizenry. As a way of not only recognising companies that are doing this, but to encourage others to follow suit, is the Caring Company initiative (www.caringcompany.net). Sponsored by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, the initiative’s mission is to recognise and promote good corporate citizenship and communicate beneficial behaviours into Hong Kong’s companies. The organisation now boasts more than 1,600 active caring companies (excluding caring organisations and not-for-profit members). Among those recently recognised was QuestNet’s Hong Kong headquarters.

What does it take to be considered a ‘Caring Company’?

The Caring Company initiative grades companies across six criteria, including the promotion of green operations; employee friendly companies with opportunities provided to those with disabilities; policies that reflect improvement of poverty and that enhance quality of living. A minimum of two criteria need to be achieved in order for a company to be successfully recognised as a Caring Company. One of the companies recently recognised by this initiative is QuestNet Hong Kong. For the second year running, QuestNet Hong Kong was recognised as Employee Friendly and Giving (Charity), providing proof that the headquarters of this global direct selling enterprise is thriving by caring more.

Company profile: QuestNet (http://www.quest.net) Ltd

QuestNet Ltd is an international direct sales company and network marketing business that recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary as a market innovator and leader in its field.

Operating a global sales force, QuestNet offers a high-quality product portfolio consisting of consumable and everyday products, brand-name items, luxury and collectibles, personal care and wellness products, vacation packages, and telecommunications.

The company also provides business opportunities to millions of people around the world by offering entrepreneurial aspirants the opportunity to run their own business through an e-commerce platform, while providing the Information Technology knowledge and business tools for these people to succeed. "Breaking the Veils: Women Artists from the Islamic World" Included at ARABESQUE: Arts of the Arab World February 23-March 15, 2009

"Breaking the Veils: Women Artists from the Islamic World" Included at ARABESQUE: Arts of the Arab World February 23-March 15, 2009

The ArtReach Foundation, an Atlanta-based nonprofit chosen to be the Exclusive Presenter for the US Tour of "Breaking the Veils: Women Artists from the Islamic World", is honored to announce that selected works from the Exhibition will be displayed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts during ARABESQUE: Arts of the Arab World Festival, a three-week celebration of Arab arts and culture. The festival is presented in cooperation with the League of Arab States.

(PRWEB) February 22, 2009 -- The ArtReach Foundation, an Atlanta-based nonprofit chosen to be the Exclusive Presenter for the US Tour of "Breaking the Veils: Women Artists from the Islamic World", is honored to announce that selected works from the Exhibition will be displayed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts during ARABESQUE: Arts of the Arab World Festival, a three-week celebration of Arab arts and culture. The festival is presented in cooperation with the League of Arab States.

US Tour Co-Chairs, Katrina Griessman and Mitzi Prochnow, along with Susan Anderson, the CEO & Founder of The ArtReach Foundation, will be in Washington DC for the Opening Festivities.

"For all of us who have worked on the US Tour of "Breaking the Veils," to have selected works included in such an extraordinary event is the culmination of a dream", said Griessman. She went on to say, "This collection of artwork is more than just a tour of art. I see it as a kind of global diplomatic initiative…through the use of art. The ARABESQUE is absolutely the perfect place for some of the women artists' work from "Breaking the Veils" to be shown".

The artworks are drawn from the permanent collection of the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts in Amman. The exhibition brings together the contemporary work of female artists from the Arab and Islamic world in an attempt to break the stereotypes attached to women who live there. The works on display address issues related to gender, the environment, politics, nationalism, social mores, and include abstract works that convey purely aesthetic values. For Arabesque, the Kennedy Center has created an exclusive installation using 29 paintings by the 26 Arab artists participating in the exhibit. The media are as varied as their subjects and include: oils, acrylics, watercolors, inks, gouaches, dry cacti, silkscreen, etching, collage and treated photographic print.

Susan Anderson, of The ArtReach Foundation, said that, "We are honored that the Royal Society of Fine Arts of Jordan, and the Pan Mediterranean Women's Artists Network (F.A.M.) of Greece, the organizers of "Breaking the Veils", selected us to bring this remarkable exhibition to the U.S. Now, to have selections of the exhibit's artwork shown as part of this unprecedented event in our nation's capital only adds to that honor. It is truly an opportunity to advance cross-cultural understanding and dialogue, a strong need at this time in our global history." She added that, "There are several common denominators that exist between "Breaking the Veils" and The ArtReach Foundation. Both use the arts to build understanding and bridge a connection across divides that may have been generated by great pain and disrespect for humanity. And, after a decade of working its way from Bosnia eastward, like "Breaking the Veils", The ArtReach Foundation plans to become established in Jordan, where it will build the ArtReach Middle East Institute to train teachers in the use of the arts for healing.

Under the tireless leadership of the two U.S. Tour Co-Chairs, Griessman and Prochnow, whose thirty year friendship began at Harvard in an art history class, then continued in Washington where they were both students at American University, this initiative has become a passion. The Tour's 3-year commitment was launched at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center last June, and is now slated to open in September 2009 at Yale University. Ms. Griessman, a former Wall Street institutional fixed income salesperson, turned full-time volunteer, and Ms. Prochnow had been looking for an inspiring project to work on together. That project came when the two of them accompanied Ms. Anderson to an International Peace Forum on Rhodes, Greece in 2002, where she had been invited to speak about The ArtReach Foundation's work in Bosnia, and the use of the creative expressive arts as a means to help heal from trauma. It was then that all three women had a chance to see the exhibit's artworks, inaugurated at that event by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan. Ms. Prochnow remembers from her first impression until now, "This exhibit provides the viewer with an opportunity to break the veils of misunderstanding and misconception, and thus, to embrace all humanity's universal similarities, instead of differences." Since that 2002 inauguration, the full 72 works of art have traveled to 21 venues throughout Europe and Australia.

Delta Air Lines is the major sponsor for this U.S. Tour.
